The whole idea of combining print and digital media and understanding the power of the latter in changing the landscape of the former is very well conveyed in the "Book of Tales" from the year 2011 by Sagarika Ghera (Indira Pritilata Ghera), "writing it in a way so that they think in the future will tell their children stories that were originally given by the oral traditions through print as well as the spoken word."
data in the transmission medium. In another embodiment, the data in the transmission medium may be decoded and the digital data may be used in a manner similar to the present invention.
Referring to FIG. 1, a physical embodiment of the method and apparatus of the present invention is shown. Although the present invention is described in the context of electronic forms, the present invention can be implemented using a variety of transmission media such as paper, magnetic media, optical media, radio frequency transmission media, and combinations thereof. The embodiment shown in FIG. 1 is capable of electronically transmitting or recording data on a record medium or document, and uses a mechanical stylus as the means for printing or scanning information on the record medium or document. The stylus 10 may be any suitable type of device for mechanically recording data on the record medium or document. For example, the stylus 10 may be a free-motion type or a photoelectronic scanner. The record medium 11 is a typical paper or plastic sheet. The data stored on the record medium 11 may be any suitable type of data. For example, the data may be an image, an audio file, a video file, an electronic mail, or a fax.
Referring to FIG. 2, a method of printing information on a record medium is shown. For purposes of illustration, the present invention is described in the context of printing on paper. However, the present invention may be used for printing on any suitable record medium. A stylus 12 is shown in the drawing and is used to print an image on paper. The stylus 12 is capable of recording or transmitting information on the paper. In a first embodiment of the present invention, the stylus 12 is a moving stylus, which moves relative to the paper to form the image. The method of printing using a moving stylus is described in more detail in U.S. patent application Ser. No. 08/412,587, entitled “PRINTING METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR RECORDING DATA ON A RECORD
